The Sea Grant mission is to make scientific research accessible to the affected parties and empower them to be a part of the problem-solving process. To that end, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) has been providing financial assistance, guidance, and support to Great Lakes communities on the issue of unwanted medicine since 2010. Initially collaborating with the U.S. EPA’s Great Lakes National Program Office, IISG began by participating in collection events and soon moved on to become a leader on this issue in the region, working with local partners to establish more than 50 permanent programs in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
